The internet revolution is well underway and shows no signs of slowing down. Most of us have our lives touched on a daily basis by some portion of the internet. It has influenced just about everything in our lives from the information which is at our fingertips to how we communicate. Overall, the internet has been a powerful and positive force in our lives. It has made communication much easier and cheaper, opened educational portals that did not exist before and transformed many industries such as the medical field. Of course, the internet is only a powerful tool if you actually have access to it. This, unfortunately, is not the case for many people who live in rural regions of the United States. In order to keep these citizens from falling behind the times, there is a major push underway to bring high speed broadband into rural regions. That way, we all will have access to the same information and the digital divide won’t be so big. One big way that high speed broadband has influenced our lives is in saving us time. As the saying goes, “time is money” and now people can take care of a lot of errands that before took too much time. This can be especially true for those who live in rural regions as they no longer have to drive into town to go to the bank or to do some shopping. Today, these tasks can be performed online which saves time and money and frees up the rest of our day to take on other issues. Another big change to our lives since the advent of the internet has been in the banking industry. Now checking your balance and transferring funds is as easy as a click of the mouse. This is great for those who travel a lot and may be away from their local bank or those who live in a rural region and don’t have time to get to the bank all the time. In addition, shopping has become much easier with the internet. No longer are you confined to shopping stores which are within driving distance, but now the entire world is an open marketplace. With the internet, people can shop for goods and services no matter where they live or where the supplier is located. Everything is available from groceries to houses and just about everything in between. The good news is that you can find a lot of discounts online and with shipping, you wind up saving money and don’t have to drive to the store. The internet has also brought with it a whole new industry for people to go into. It wasn’t long ago where no one went into blogging or website building as a career. However, that has all changed now and not only can people look for a job online, they can also go into a field that was created specifically for the internet. The internet has become a great tool in our lives today and it will be interesting to see what is around the next corner.
